interesting statistics

Jul 24, 2009

I usually don't care enough about total scores when the Americans are not competing, but while watching the free solo and duet finals online (after the events were completed) I noticed something weird: The Russian and Spanish solo swimmers got the same score in free solo and duet finals. Natalia Ischenko's total score was 98.833 and Gemma Mingual's total score was 98.333 for both events. I wondered if anything like that happened at any events before because the commentators said nothing about it. When I saw the scores I knew right away they were the same but I looked at the results again later to verify that weird occurance.  You would think they were different based on Mingual's opposite reactions as she got her two silver medals.
